Hello guys, on my today´s post I would like to share about smoothie recipe and the benefit of papaya. Even now summer is end and Autumn has arrived and has a special weather that grey weather and rain is absolutely often, we should always keep our body healthy and fit for this kind of weather. This smoothie are made from papaya and banana, both are exotic fruits or tropical fruits. As papaya originally came from Southern Mexico (particularly from Chiapas and Veracruz), Central America, and northern South America. The papaya is now cultivated in most tropical countries as Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, India, Brazil, Caribbean Island, Florida, and part of Africa.
Talking about papaya just remind me, on my childhood when I still living in my home country in Indonesia, that I ate papaya a lot as I just can picked up directly from my Mom´s garden. And normally falled down from the tree almost everyday and so much layed on the ground and no body pick up as always too many. I can choose the green papaya or yellow papaya as I want and we can eat both green or yellow. In my country Indonesia, usually we can eat both green or yellow. The green papaya, usually we can make it for salad that called "lalapan". Lalapan in Indonesia, is made from ripped green papaya or papaya leaf that already boiled in hot water or we can steamed and mixed with long bean ( Kacang Panjang) and mixed with ripped coconut and mixed some ingredient and chili and normally we eat in spicy way. But in Thailand normally green papaya is made for salad and not cook yet just make it ripped and fresh eat and mixed with chili and some other ingredient some peanut, baby shrimp, brown sugar and more and called it "Papaya salad or Somtam Papaya".
But since I was 5 years living in Thailand, I never seen that the people eat the papaya leafs. So, normally it´s more like in my country Indonesia, which the people love to eat papaya leaf and make for salad or cooked for stir fried veggie. I love to eat this, papaya leaf or even green papaya and also yellow papaya. But for some people who never try papaya leaf in cooked or salad, maybe they don´t like it because the tasted is very strong bitter and so intensive. For people in my country, we had a special trick and tips to cooked this kind of papaya leaf, to make the tasted is not too bitter and not too intensive. When I´m back home to my home country, normally I picked up from the papaya tree directly and I cooked the papaya leaf for my lunch and I eat it with hot steam rice. Hem...tasted so delicious for me. Because the papaya leaf is not really easy to find here in Europe or even in Germany. So, I´m back to my home country, I really miss it so much. Hmm... make me homesick when I´m talking about this. ;-)
So, it´s means in Asiatic countries, that we usually eaten papaya in both ways raws and cooked (green and yellow papaya). The way how we eaten papaya in green or raw as I talked above. And yellow papaya, we eaten normally for fruit, dessert and smoothie. In my country papaya is so easy to find and very cheap and in Thailand as well.
Did you know that papaya is source of iron and calcium? A good source of vitamin A, B and Riboflavin and an excellent source of vitamin C (ascorbic acid). The latex (a sap like milk) from the green fruits, the leaves and the term are rich in papain, and enzyme that breaks down tough meat fibers. Papain is a component in products ( meat tenderizers) sold in shops and that is used to make meat softer before cooking it. Papaya seeds have a peppery taste and are a great substitute for black and peppercorns.

It´s not only papaya in my Mom´s garden, we had a lot of banana trees also. That´s live so wild in my Mom´s garden. That´s why papaya and banana I can eat almost everyday when I wants. ;-) I remember that my Mom always made some banana chips and fried banana. Mostly we made banana chips when on big Muslimfeast (Ied Mubarak), and of course I always help her in the kitchen to making this chip. But making this banana chip, normally we used a green banana that still raw and hard. Because when is too soft is difficult to make it banana chip. And fried banana normally eat as snack and accompany with a hot cup of coffee or a hot tea. It´s only that, we still have so many recipe to make banana in different kind of foods, dessert too. For dessert we usually put together with ice cream, or even with coconut milk mixed with some fruits, as jack fruit and many more. I´ll show you this recipe for my next post. Maybe some of you already curious how I make this recipe.
Banana is the common name for a type of herb and also the name for the herbaceous plants that grow this herb. These plants belong to the genusMusa. They are native to the tropical region of Southeast Asia. There are about 110 different species of banana. It´s thought that bananas were grown for food for the first time in Papua New Guinea. Today, they are cultivated in tropical region around the world.
Bananas are tasty fruits. they are green when unripe and turn yellow as they ripen. They have a nice realxing flavor. Some kinds, or cultivars, of banana have a firmer, starchier fruit. These kind are called plantains. Plantains are mostly used for cooking or fibre. The sweet, soft bananas that are used for dessert are called dessert bananas.
